Creative Writing

In September 2005 I developed the Whitman Creative Studies Program, which  was  designed to provide college students with the opportunity to flex their  creative muscles.  Since I was expecting the students to do three pieces of  creative writing per week posted onto a blog, I thought that I should at least  do the same.  I decided to call my creative writing blog Stray Thoughts and Idle  Suggestions and intentionally pushed myself to "get freaky" at times to  inspire my students.

Now, I would never claim to be a great writer, and some of the pieces I  wrote on the blog are incredibly lame.  Still, the idea of forcing yourself to  write creatively with no thoughts to how your writing will be received is a  wonderful exercise and I would highly recommend it for just about anyone.
